SCU faculty demonstrate expertise
in educational research

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) faculty members Jenny Yu, LAc, MAOM, and Charles E. Fernandez, DC, MAppSc, have published a paper entitled “Peer Review of Teaching,” which is included in the fall 2007 edition of The Journal of Chiropractic Education.

The paper began as a project for revisiting the SCU peer-review system, in which teaching methods are improved not only through student feedback, but also by using an effective and elaborate peer-review teaching competence evaluation rubric. The paper summarizes how faculty members can evaluate and review peers in classroom and clinical teaching efficacy. The principles outlined in the paper are valuable for formative and developmental functions as well as summative and personnel purposes.

Yu and Fernandez are both full-time faculty members and clinicians at SCU. Yu is an associate professor and director of clinic administration at the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Fernandez is an associate professor at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic.
