FDA encourages vitamin usage

A consumer health update published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) encourages the judicious use of vitamins. According to the bulletin, published Nov. 19 by the FDA, “there are many good reasons to consider taking vitamin supplements.”

The FDA advice comes on the heels of a cover story in the November issue of Reader’s Digest, entitled “The Vitamin Hoax: 10 Not to Take.” The Reader’s Digest article cautioned readers about taking vitamins.” (To read a Chiropractic Economics blog on this subject, go to www.ChiroEco.com/vitamins.)

The FDA bulletin cautions consumers not to overdo the use of vitamins, especially fat-soluble supplements and advises not to self-diagnose health conditions.
