Consumers want more health-insurance regulation

Health-insurance companies and managed-care companies, such as HMOs, were among the top industries U.S. adults said should have more regulation, according to an online survey by Harris Interactive.

Fifty-two percent of adults said health insurance companies should have more regulation, while 45 percent of adults said managed-care companies needed more regulation. The top two industries adults said should be more regulated were the oil industry (53 percent) and pharmaceuticals and drug companies (53 percent).

Just 15 percent or less of all adults said they believed statements made by these industries, as well as electric-and-gas utility companies and tobacco companies, are “generally honest and trustworthy.” Tobacco, oil, managed care, and health insurance companies are the industries least trusted, according to this survey.
