CMS releases final rule on MPFS

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final ruling on Nov. 1 that includes plans to implement a 10 percent cut over two years to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS).

Chiropractors are slated to receive an additional 2 percent cut, bringing the overall cut in chiropractic Medicare provider services to 12 percent.

A bill that passed the House of Representatives in August addressed this issue by updating the fee schedule with a slight increase over two years. The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) joined a letter supported by more than 100 Medicare provider groups urging the Senate to follow the House lead and shelve these draconian cuts.

The Senate is currently deliberating a plan to reverse the MPFS cuts.
