Northwestern unveils vertebrate mascot
Northwestern Health Sciences University has unveiled Vinnie the Vertebrate, one of the university’s “Health Heroes,” as its mascot.
Vinnie promotes the Stand Tall America program, which was developed by the university to encourage children to stand, think, and act tall.
Vinnie was first created in 2005 as part of a coloring contest and has since appeared on various promotional items including rulers, pencils, and erasers. In February, the character came to life with the help of a professional costume design company, International Mascot Corp. in Canada, as well as through a sponsorship from the chiropractic alumni association at Northwestern.
Vinnie’s costume is available for rental for DCs who want to promote good spinal health to children. The Vinnie costume rental includes a PowerPoint presentation with age-appropriate information about spinal health. The presentation emphasizes sitting up and standing tall at an early age, and is a general reminder for all ages to be conscious of the benefits of healthy posture.
