Logan opens new center on campus
The new $21.7 million William D. Purser Center, a 47,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art learning facility, was recently unveiled at Logan College of Chiropractic’s Chesterfield campus.
The building is named after William D. Purser, DC, a 1953 Logan graduate, who pledged $2 million to the project.
During his prepared remarks, George A. Goodman, DC, president of Logan, said he is most proud that the project is the largest capital improvement program the college has ever undertaken and the first one in nearly 20 years. One of Logan’s primary reasons for building the multipurpose center was to enable the college to hold its commencement ceremonies on campus.
The Purser Center features a 1,500-person main hall that can be divided into smaller classrooms for lectures and continuing education seminars, and is equipped with sophisticated wireless technology to support distance learning. The building lobby is large enough to accommodate postgraduate events, corporate meetings, conference lunches, banquets, wedding receptions, cocktail parties, and other community activities such as stage shows and concerts. A naturally sloped, outdoor amphitheatre at the back of the center seats up to 900 guests.
The project included the creation of a number of other campus enhancements, including a new student plaza with a central fountain, enhanced entrances, improved pedestrian walkways, upgraded roadways, and additional student parking.
