CCGPP: Still alive and in review
The Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCGPP) is “alive and well,” according to an e-mail sent by Vice Chairperson Mark D. Dehen, DC, CCGPP.
The CCGPP, which took center stage at the 2006 fall meeting of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA), highlighted a number of undertakings it has made on the document about low-back pain since its presentation and eight-hour discussion at the COCSA meeting. These undertakings include:
• The introductory chapter of the document has been reviewed and revised to improve its clarity and readability. The CCGPP is in the process of hiring a healthcare editor to revise the “evidence synthesis” to make it more user-friendly to the profession at large.
• Drs. Bill Meeker and Dana Lawrence, team leaders for the low-back evidence synthesis chapter, are completing the review and synthesis of the commentary received. Once the commentary is collated, it will be reviewed by the team for consideration as part of the expert opinion process. The CCGPP will provide the profession 45 days of advanced notice of the release date.
• The Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) has expressed a desire to develop an additional chapter specifically on subluxation. This subluxation team will utilize the same evidence synthesis protocols employed in the other chapters to review and rate the available subluxation literature.
• The dissemination, implementation, evaluation, and revision (DIER) process continues to move ahead. An initial seminar on evidence-based care is being developed to teach practitioners how to use evidence to promote and defend the care they provide for their patients.
• The CCGPP is in discussion with the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) about ways of partnering to promulgate the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based care for the chiropractic profession.
