ACA willing to start merger talks with ICA
The Board of Governors (BOG) of the American Chiropractic Association has reiterated its intention to start merger talks with the International Chiropractors Association (ICA).
The statement, issued May 1 by the BOG, strengthens what it issued March 24, following a demand by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA) for ACA and ICA to unite.
ACA’s most recent statement announced that the association continues to “stand ready and willing to begin merger discussions with ICA leaders” and invited ICA to meet to set in motion the “discussions that will hopefully lead to a stronger and more powerful chiropractic profession.”
“Unity efforts on a state level have been noteworthy and beneficial — and national unity is the next logical step in the right direction … There have been efforts to unify ACA and ICA, but those efforts have fallen short of merger. COCSA’s recent resolution on unity provides a strong impetus for new merger discussions,” read the statement passed by the ACA BOG May 1.
“I believe that the differences between ACA and ICA have been exaggerated over the years, while the similarities have been understated,” ACA President Richard Brassard, DC, wrote in a May 2 letter to ICA President John Maltby, DC. “We share a common profession, a common perspective, and a common desire to advance the interests of chiropractic in America.”
