H.R. 1470 passes out of House V.A. Committee
Rep. Bob Filner’s legislative initiative to provide program-wide chiropractic staffing at all U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs facilities, H.R. 1470, has passed out of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and will now be considered by the Full House of Representatives.
Following subcommittee consideration and a mark-up session May 10, the bill was forwarded to the full committee that same day. On May 15, Filner, in a brief news release, reported the full committee had passed six bills to “expand veterans’ healthcare and benefits,” with H.R. 1470 being one of the six.
This legislation would:
• Extend veterans’ access to in-facility chiropractic services by requiring the expansion of chiropractic personnel requirements to “not fewer than 75 medical centers by not later than Dec. 31, 2008, and at all medical centers by not later than Dec. 31, 2011.”
• Speed up the expansion of the pilot chiropractic services program and assist in meeting the demand for chiropractic services by the veteran population.
• Provide better access to veterans for the care of their choice.
ICA urges all DCs in the United States to contact their members of Congress and urge them to add their names to this bill as co-sponsors. For more information, call Filner’s office at 202-225-8045.
