Dr. James W. Parker honored with statue unveiling
The late Dr. James W. Parker was honored with a statue unveiling in Parker College of Chiropractic’s courtyard June 1. The gathering also commemorated Parker’s 25th anniversary.
“One of Dr. Parker’s last wishes was to have a statue of him placed in Parker College when the time was right,” said Fabrizio Mancini, DC, president of Parker College. “Now, the students that never knew him can still get a sense of who our founder was.”
Parker also requested the statue contain his ashes. Instead of being in the base of the statue, the urn is placed within the statue itself.
The plaque beneath Parker’s statue contains his birth year (1920), year of passing (1997), full name and a quote — “Loving service, my first technique.” This quote is one of the Parker Principles, a series of 13 phrases Parker students and faculty learn and live by to care for their patients, the people around them, and themselves.
The statue is cast in bronze and shows Parker standing tall with one hand raised in a welcoming gesture.
The names of Parker College’s four new board members were also revealed during the ceremony. The board’s new members are Bill Nardiello as chairman and acting treasurer, Wright Lassiter, Phillip Cook, and Michael Flynn.
