OSCA passes new unity resolution
The Board of Directors of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) has passed its second resolution on national unity in three months.
The resolution came after the board studied both statements made by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and the International Chiropractors Association (ICA).
The OSCA resolution states: “The OSCA, which is committed to one unified voice within the chiropractic profession, strongly encourages its members to fully support any national chiropractic association that is also committed to moving forward toward unity by seeking a merger of national chiropractic associations.”
The OSCA resolution does not specifically mention either the ACA or the ICA. Earlier, the ACA stated it would be willing to start merger talks with the ICA. However, the ICA issued a statement that said it will work cooperatively on common issues with the ACA, but will continue to express itself in a separate voice.
OSCA Executive Director Woody Woodward said in a press release, “Our members re bright people. They can read the statements made by the two organizations and make their own decisions.”
Woodward admitted that OSCA’s earlier April resolution, which called for members to withhold support of both ACA and ICA until the two associations merge, was controversial. He said, “The intent was to let folks know how serious we are about this issue and to do whatever we could to help move this profession to unity. Our members are extremely concerned about the national healthcare debate which is looming in 2009 and they are pessimistic about how this profession will fare in that debate unless chiropractic physicians are speaking with one voice.”
He said OSCA encourages its members who are members of both ACA and ICA to work within those organizations to encourage unity.
