Palmer center receives new name

The new building on the Palmer Davenport Campus, formerly known as the Chiropractic Learning Resource Center, has a new name: The Palmer College of Chiropractic Academic Health Center. The clinic facility within the center will be known as the Davenport Clinic.

“The Chiropractic Learning Resource Center is a part of the new building, but it’s only one aspect of a larger whole,” said Kurt Wood, DC, executive dean for clinic affairs. “Because this facility is affiliated with a first professional educational institution, with quality patient-centered care taking place within it, and with a focus on, employment of and contribution to scholarship in the profession, it is truly an academic health center.”

The Academic Health Center has approximately 50,000-square feet of space devoted to a community outpatient clinic facility and a learning resource center for clinical chiropractic education. In addition, the facility will have digital radiology services and areas devoted specifically to chiropractic rehabilitation and sports-injury services, as well as workers’ compensation and personal injury services.

Sixteen doctors will be the pioneering DCs for the new outpatient clinic. They include: Drs. Dennis Lopez, Susan Larkin, David Hannah, Thomas Wicks, Michael Oppelt, Alfred Harker, Todd Hubbard, Dennis Malik, Steven Silverman, Misty Stick, Robert Illingworth, James Countryman, Casey Crisp, Virginia Barber, Scott Carpenter, and Ronald Boesch.

The Davenport Clinic will officially open July 10. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Academic Health Center will take place during Homecoming Aug. 10. The Davenport Clinic community open house will take place Aug. 29.
