Echinacea found effective for colds

A new meta-analysis on the use of Echinacea for the prevention and treatment of the common cold shows this herb is effective.

“Evaluation of Echinacea for the prevention and treatment of the common cold: A meta-analysis,” published in the July 2007 issue of The Lancet (pages 473–480), looked at 14 unique studies on the use of Echinacea in treating colds.

The herb decreased the odds of developing a cold by 58 percent, and reduced the duration of a cold, although the effectiveness in duration was not as pronounced.
