Michigan’s chiropractic associations merge

The Michigan Chiropractic Association (MCA) and the Michigan Chiropractic Society (MCS) merged into a single entity — the Michigan Association of Chiropractors (MAC) and began working under the MAC banner as of Jan. 1, 2007.

The merger creates a single, more influential association that better serves chiropractic doctors, patients, and the profession as a whole.

After years of operating separately, the differences between the two organizations have diminished and their need for a unified effort has increased. The organizations have begun collaborating recently, most notably during efforts to improve Michigan’s scope of practice legislation and in legal actions against discriminatory insurance practices. Additionally, the merger will reduce duplication allowing the profession to devote more resources to public education and public policy initiatives.

A joint venture agreement and plan of consolidation as well as a set of new bylaws have already been ratified to ensure a smooth transition. The Bylaws Committee, made up of Drs. Christophe Dean, William Goss, John Hofmann, Mark Limberg, Eric Seif, and Dennis Whitford, worked to create regulations to provide organizational structure for the MAC. Working equally hard was the Transition Executive Committee, comprised of Drs. Allen Kash, Thomas Klapp, Donald M. Reno, Daniel Spencer, and Kirk Steketee, who created the Joint Venture Agreement and Plan of Consolidation. This plan provides the framework for the rules that will govern the MAC during the transition period.
