Belgian Chiropractic Union turns 60
The Belgian Chiropractors Union celebrated its 60th anniversary in December 2006 and Foot Levelers’ sponsorship of this event allowed 20 chiropractic students studying in England and France to attend this celebration.
Jos van den Hoek, DC, of the Netherlands, Foot Levelers’ regional representative, addressed the Belgian Union members by encouraging them to nourish their younger chiropractors and students. “These students are your future. They will carry your chiropractic message throughout the next 60 years,” he said.
Chiropractic was introduced to Belgium in 1923. The European Chiropractic Union was established with the co-operation of Belgian, Swiss, and British chiropractors in 1932.
The Belgian Chiropractors Union has worked steadily since its conception towards legal recognition. In 1994, 213,000 signatures were collected in a petition for recognition, but it was not until April 1999 that chiropractic was legally recognized under Belgian law.
Foot Levelers will continue to support the European Chiropractors Union with sponsorship of the annual event in Portugal in 2007 and in Brussels, Belgium in 2008.
