Hawk appointed to research commission chair
The Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCGPP) has named Cheryl Hawk, DC, PhD, the new chair of the CCGPP Research Commission. The appointment was announced in Pittsburgh during a meeting of the CCGPP Council and the CCGPP Research Commission chapter captains June 22 and 23.
Hawk, vice president of research and scholarship at Cleveland Chiropractic College, is a 1976 graduate of National College of Chiropractic and practiced full-time for 12 years. In 1991 she earned a PhD in Preventive Medicine from the University of Iowa and also became a Certified Health Education Speciaist. She has been the primary writer of successful grant and contract proposals totaling more than $5 million and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
In 2001 she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chiropractic Health Care Section of the American Public Health Association, and was named “Researcher of the Year” in 2003 by the American Chiropractic Association. Both awards recognized her work in the areas of public health, health promotion and prevention. In 2005 she was named “Researcher of the Year” by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research.
Hawk replaces outgoing chair Jay Triano, DC, PhD, who has accepted a position with Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
The CCGPP was formed in 1995 through the cooperation of several distinguished chiropractic entities, to “create an equitable chiropractic practice document,” According to its Web site.
