Release of NPI database delayed

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has once again delayed the long-awaited release of the National Provider Identifier database, which was supposed to be available months ago.

CMS had promised to allow providers to look up the NPIs of doctors they do business with by June, and then delayed the database launch until Aug. 1.

Now, CMS has delayed the database access once again — and won’t say when it plans to release the database.
