Hawaii, New York top list of ‘most expensive’ for business

If you are thinking about opening a new practice, you might want to consider which states are the most expensive in which to do business.

Hawaii, New York, and Alaska head the list, but Connecticut has the highest costs associated with wages, according to a report by the Milken Institute.

The same three states took top spots in the institute’s Cost-of-Doing-Business Index last year. The index, which is sponsored by the California Manufacturers and Technology Association, takes into account wage costs, taxes, electricity costs, and real-estate costs for industrial and office space.

According to the study, South Dakota has the lowest costs associated with wages, while South Dakota, Iowa, and North Dakota were the least expensive states for businesses.
