Shapiro named sports doctor of the year

Ira A. Shapiro, DC, director of the Plaza Chiropractic Center in Old Bridge, N.J., for the past 20 years, has been named the 2006 Sports Doctor of the Year by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) Council on Sports Injuries & Physical Fitness.

Presented by a national committee of chiropractic physicians who have previously earned the award, the honor is offered annually to the chiropractic physician that best advanced the field of sports chiropractic during the course of the year.

In the summer of 2004, Shapiro was selected as an official member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic medical team, and nearly two years later, was chosen for the 2006 Winter Olympics medical team.

Most recently, the township of Old Bridge, New Jersey, and the State of New Jersey also honored Shapiro for his long-term commitment to chiropractic’s excellence and two-time designation as a member of the United States Olympic team medical staff.
