Elections, honors mark ACA’s annual meeting

The House of Delegates (HOD) of the American Chiropractic Association elected its new officers and recognized several individuals for their professional accomplishments and contributions during its 43rd annual meeting, Sept. 6-9, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A policy of interest urging ACA members and doctors across the country to join together in support of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress and to contribute financially to the effort was also approved by the HOD during the annual meeting,. The resolution also directs ACA to contribute approximately from $20,000 to $50,000 to the F4CP campaign during 2007 through a combination of in-kind and financial support.

Seasoned veterans will remain on the executive committee of ACA’s Board of Governors and in top leadership positions in the HOD.

• Richard Brassard, DC, was re-elected president of the ACA.

• Lewis J. Bazakos, MS, DC, will continue as chairman of the board of governors and governor of District 4.

• Glenn Manceaux, DC, maintained his position as the third member of ACA’s executive committee and was re-elected vice president of the ACA.

INDIVIDUALS HONORED

The ACA HOD also bestowed a number of awards :

• Jerome McAndrews, DC, was posthumously named the ACA’s “Chiropractor of the Year.”

• David Madison, DC, ACA’s delegate to Southern California, was recognized as Delegate of the Year. Madison was also elected to the ACA Board of Governors during the meeting.

• John Wanda, ACA’s former vice president of finance and administration, was presented the Humanitarian of the Year.

Other major award winners include:

• George B. McClelland Researcher of the Year Award: Dr. Christine Choate, Deputy Director for the Samueli Institute and former program officer at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), National Institutes of Health.

• Academic of the Year: Dr. David Seaman, DC, professor at Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida.

• Drs. John Flynn-Robert Lynch Memorial Award: Jack Kessinger, DC, ACA’s Missouri Delegate. The award recognizes the “outstanding delegate who has served in the House of Delegates for less than five years.”

• Alternate Delegate of the Year: Gary Carver, DC, ACA’s Alternate Delegate to Missouri.
