A survey released by Harris Interactive reveals that U.S. adults puts drug companies and all types of insurance companies near the bottom of the list when it comes to trustworthiness. The industry they trust most? Supermarkets.

In order of trustworthiness, the list reads:

  3. Hospitals,
  4. Computer software companies,
  5. Computer hardware companies,
  6. Airlines,
  7. Packaged food companies,
  8. Electric and gas utilities,
  9. Online retailers,
  10. Life insurance companies,
  11. Telephone companies,
  12. Car manufacturers,
  13. Pharmaceutical and drug companies,
  14. Health insurance companies,
  15. Managed-care companies (HMOs),
  16. Oil companies, and
  17. Tobacco companies.

The same survey, which polled 2,010 adults aged 18 or older, also asked which industries should be more regulated by government. Respondents listed oil companies first, followed by pharmaceutical, health insurance, and managed-care companies.
