Northwestern launches best practices pilot project
This summer, the Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies at Northwestern Health Sciences University will be undertaking a three month best practices pilot project. Twelve university clinicians from the Bloomington Natural Care Center and the Natural Care Center at Woodwinds each will be electronically tracking five patients with low back pain using newly developed patient tracking software. The practitioners represent several modalities: chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy, healing touch, and naturopathic medicine.
The purpose of project is to implement best practices for low back pain in the context of a quality assurance system, says Michele Maiers, DC, MPH, an assistant professor at Northwestern.
In the fall, the project results will be analyzed to see how feasible it will be to implement the electronic tracking system University-wide. It will also help University practitioners determine the course of care for patients with low back pain. Results may also affect the University’s curriculum.
