Riekeman elected to CCE board

Guy F. Riekeman, DC, president of Life University College of Chiropractic, has been elected to the board of directors of the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). And according to Joseph Brimhall, DC, president of the CCE board of directors and president of Western States Chiropractic College, “Dr. Riekeman’s election is evidence of CCE’s commitment to inclusion and balance of views from the entire chiropractic profession.”

According to Life University, Riekeman’s election marks the first time in the university’s history that a Life representative has been elected to serve on the CCE leadership in any capacity.

Life University and CCE have not always seen eye-to-eye. CCE’s Commission on Accreditation revoked Life’s accreditation in June 2002 after finding that the college had failed to meet certain criteria deemed essential for accreditation. The school subsequently also lost its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), primarily because of financial issues.

The revocation of accreditation took place under the president of Sid E. Williams, DC, founder of the university. Williams left the university soon after the CCE revocation.

In February 2003, a federal judge granted an injunction to restore the school’s CCE accreditation. The school is now fully accredited by CCE.

Riekeman was appointed president of the university in March 2004. Previously he had been chancellor of Palmer Chiropractic University System. Riekeman put the university’s finances in order, which allowed the school to regain accreditation in 2004 from SACS.

Riekeman will serve the unexpired term of George Goodman, DC, who resigned last year. His term starts immediately and ends at the conclusion of the annual board meeting in January 2007. He will then be eligible for re-election to a full three-year term at that time, according to CCE bylaws.
