Mds support proposed DC legislation in Pennsylvania
It probably wasn’t the first time that medical doctors and chiropractors have been in agreement, but it may have been the first time in Pennsylvania that the medical association supported the state chiropractic association’s proposed legislation.
According to Gene Veno, executive vice president of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians testified and supported PCA’s proposed legislation concerning retro reviews.
The legislation proposes limiting billing errors to a 12-month time frame. Currently, insurers are auditing doctors and requesting refunds for billing errors as far back as four years after payment was made.
The proposed legislation, HB.1850, would not affect retrospective audits for clear and distinctive fraud, said Veno.
Veno said this was the first time the medical associations have supported the chiropractic association. “This will bode well for future relationships between the professions. There was a time when a medical group would not even appear in the same building with a doctor of chiropractic. Those days are long gone, and thanks to the hard work of many dedicated doctors of chiropractic, we are beginning to see the fruits of their labor.”
