March 2006
NBCE board of directors votes on bylaws issues
National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) President Dr. Peter Ferguson announced that, as a result of the full board of directors, the board will propose new changes to district directors’ term limits and eligibility. The board made the unanimous decision during a full board conference call on March 3.
• Term limits. The change will place a new nine consecutive-year limit on service of district directors and will be presented to NBCE state delegates for ratification at the May 2006 annual meeting in Portland, Ore.
If ratified by delegates, it will become effective immediately. As part of the implementation proviso, the board agreed that the new term limits provision will not be retroactive and does not apply to current district directors.
This added provision to the term limits of district directors is in addition to current term limits that require candidates to have been on their state board within three years prior to nomination and election by their district delegates.
• Eligibility. Eligibility was also redefined. In the past, individuals were eligible for election provided that they were not off their state boards for more than three years.
The change in eligibility that was unanimously approved by the board for submission to the delegates now adds that candidates will be eligible for an additional two elections (not to exceed the nine-year limit) without having to maintain membership on their state boards.
