Second Olympic DC recalls the event’s memories
The 2006 Winter Olympics ended in February, but the memories live on, according to Ira Shapiro, DC, director of the Plaza Chiropractic Center in Old Bridge, N.J. Shapiro was one of two chiropractors chosen to work on the U.S. Olympic Medical Team. The other chiropractor was Jeffrey Solomon of Miami, Fl.
“Check your ego at the door!” was the mantra that the medical team followed from the time they stepped off the airplane, says Shapiro. He states, “We were a team — a team dedicated to the success of every American athlete who trained so hard and sacrificed so much to earn the right to represent the United States at the world’s greatest international competition.”
Although Shapiro was no stranger to the Olympics (he previously served on the 2004 Olympic Medical Team), he was thrilled to socialize with the likes of Paul Holmgren, former NHL hockey player, coach and current associate general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers or Keith Allain, a coach for the St. Louis Blues.
