AARP offers free training on hiring older workers
AARP and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Workforce Preparation invite owners of small and medium size businesses to participate in a free training session in Bridgeport, Conn., on June 8 to learn how to hire and retain workers 50 and older.
The training session, “The 50+ Workforce 2020: A Blueprint for Innovation,” is 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 1070 Main St., Bridgeport, and is one of only four such trainings held across the country by AARP and the U.S. Chamber.
The training workshop will provide a glimpse into the business climate of the future — the year 2020 — and will lead participants in considering changes necessary to remain competitive in the 21st century. Participants will design and implement six-month action plans with technical assistance and support from the chamber.
The U.S. Chamber and local chambers are hosts of the four sessions, while AARP is funding them. Connecticut is the last workshop to be held. The others were in South Carolina, Kentucky, and Arizona.
From the sessions, AARP and the U.S. Chamber will gather information to develop and implement a national marketing campaign aimed at businesses, stressing the value of older workers and helping owners of small and medium size businesses develop ways of recruiting and retaining them.
Registration for the training is free but limited to 50 businesses. To register, visit www.uschamber.com/cwp.
