Wolfe-Harris Center submits grant
for integrative care study
The Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies (WHCCS) at Northwestern Health Sciences University recently submitted a grant proposal for a study of chiropractic care versus multidisciplinary care for low back pain. The grant was submitted to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
The $1.2 million, three-year proposed randomized clinical trial would compare chiropractic care to integrative care utilizing chiropractic, acupuncture, and Oriental medicine, massage therapy, allopathic care, exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy, and self-care education. Patients in the multidisciplinary care group would receive their treatment based upon the collaborative recommendations of practitioners in each area. Patients in both groups would receive individualized evidence-based chiropractic care.
Word on the grant’s acceptance is expected to arrive by the end of the year.
