Anti-chiropractic ads spread to Web

Anti-chiropractic advertising has emerged on the Internet. According to an e-mail from Terry Rondberg, DC, president of the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA), a number of Web sites are running scare messages neck manipulation.

Rondberg pointed to two Web sites, www.neck911.com and www.chirovictims.org.uk for their apparent anti-chiropractic messages. The latter Web site is run by a group called Action for Victims of Chiropractic (AVC), which claims not to receive funding from any other group. However, AVC lists an e-mail address of neck999uk@aol.com. According to Rondberg, 999 is the British emergency number, the counterpart to 911 in the United States.

Rondberg said the WCA has retained attorney Carlos Negrete, who has battled and won similar attacks against chiropractic, notably against the Quackbuster, Stephen Barrett, MD.

He also said that the WCA has initiated its own counter-campaign, which is designed to floor the media and the Internet with the truth about chiropractic’s safety, along with research evidence to reassure the public.

“We have to shout down these critics who want to scare people away from chiropractors,” said Rondberg. “We have to make sure the truth is heard over the noise created by lies and rumors.”

WCA has created the Chiropractic Anti-Defamation Fund and welcomes donations to help fight the distorted picture of chiropractic.
