AMA testifies to Congress
about cutting Medicare
The American Medical Association
(AMA) called on Congress to stop Medicare physician payment
cuts before time runs out on this legislative session. Over
the next nine years, Medicare payments are scheduled to be
cut 37 percent, while practice costs rise 22 percent, according
to the AMA.
“Congressional action
is the only thing standing between seniors and reduced access
to physician care,” said AMA Board Chair Cecil Wilson,
MD. “The AMA is greatly encouraged by legislation introduced
this week that stops looming Medicare cuts and provides physicians
with Medicare payments more in line with practice costs.”
The AMA is running ads that
highlight the impact of the Medicare cuts on seniors’
access to care, kicking off the AMA’s summer/fall campaign
to stop the Medicare physician payment cuts.
