Noted CAM leader joins advisory board

JAN. 27 — Integrative medicine pioneer Woodson Merrell, MD, will aid educational outreach to doctors on effective strategies for integrating complementary medicine into clinical practice as part of his new role on the Integrative Therapeutics, Inc. (ITI) Scientific Advisory Board.

Merrell joins more than 30 doctors across a myriad of medical specialties on this board whose mission is to lend practical, professional perspective to new product development, educational programs, and other specialized projects.

Merrell is perhaps best known as the founding director of the innovative Continuum Center for Health and Healing at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, N.Y. This $10 million center brings a blend of conventional medicine and complementary modalities including homeopathy, acupuncture, and herbal remedies to more than 20,000 patients each year.

He is also on the faculty at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and is on the Steering, Executive, and Policy Committees of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine. He has served on both New York State’s Board of Acupuncture (chairman 1999-2001) and Board of Professional Medical Conduct. He has also been a consultant on alternative and complementary medicine to the U.S. Congress.
