Medicare demo seminars scheduled

FEB. 14, 2005 — Chiropractors who practice within the regions that will be part of the Medicare chiropractic demonstration project can learn more about the project by attending a one-day program sponsored by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA).

The program will focus on documentation and billing for the demonstration project. It has been developed by Medicare experts who have been involved in negotiations with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the protocols of the project.

The ACA is seeking continuing education credit for this eight-hour program.

In most instances, the day-long program is being conducted in co-sponsorship with state associations.

The locations and dates of the meetings include:

• Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, March 12, co-sponsored by the Iowa Chiropractic Society and Palmer College of Chiropractic. Contact the Iowa Chiropractic Society, Gene Handley, PhD, at 800-475-6178 or ICS @iowadcs.org.

• Lewiston, Maine, March 19, co-sponsored by the Maine Chiropractic. Contact the Maine Chiropractic Association, 207-622-5421.

• Albuquerque, N.M., March 19. Contact the New Mexico Chiropractic Association, 505-828-1128 .

• National University of Health Sciences, Lombard, Ill., March 19, co-sponsored by National University of Health Sciences. Contact the ACA at 800-986-4636.

• Staunton/Waynesboro, Va., date to be arranged, co-sponsored by the Virginia Chiropractic Association. Contact the Virginia Chiropractic Association, 540-932-3100.

Participants in this demonstration project have an opportunity to positively impact the future of chiropractic. The project will gather statistical data on the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care to counter the projections of the Congressional Budget Office (CBS) and establish chiropractic under Medicare, much as the pilot programs in the DOD and VA did.
