Reforms planned for Ontario acupuncture practitioners

Ontario is planning to regulate acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to protect people from unqualified practitioners, insideTORONTO.com reports.

If the legislation is passed, Ontario will be the second Canadian province to set standards for both TCM and acupuncture. British Columbia regulated the practices in 1999 and 2001.

According to the health ministry, acupuncture is practiced in Ontario by 2,000 TCM practitioners, plus another 1,500 regulated health practitioners — chiropractors, medical doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and massage therapists included — who also practice acupuncture.
