June 2005
USDOT public meeting
The United States Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will convene a public meeting announcing the proposed National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) program.
This meeting is intended to introduce the concept of the NRCME program and provide an opportunity for discussion with FMCSA personnel. The meeting is scheduled Wednesday, June 22, at the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, Va., from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and is open to all interested parties.
As reported earlier in Newsflash, the registry is a new program that will certify medical examiners who can examine truck and motor coach drivers and determine their physical qualifications to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). If the NRCME program is established, FMCSA will require all interstate CMV drivers to get their medical certificates from a medical examiner listed on the registry.
Medical examiners include doctors of medicine, doctors of osteopathy, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, and doctors of chiropractic.
