NWHS profs co-author Spanish translation book for DCs

The language barrier between chiropractors and their Spanish-speaking patients is beginning to come down with the aid of Thomas Bergmann, DC, a professor at Northwestern Health Sciences University, and Thomas Davis, DC, a retired Northwestern faculty member.

Bergmann and Davis recently wrote Spanish Terminology for Chiropractic Care, their third book together. The book is intended to aid chiropractors in communicating with their patients.

Bergmann said he and Davis began the book about two years ago after a representative from Elsevier, the publisher, approached Davis at a chiropractic convention in Florida. Bergmann said Elsevier publishes similar translation books for other healthcare providers.

Progressing chronologically in the order of a typical exam, the book lists words and phrases commonly used during a chiropractic appointment, from the greeting to the checkup to administrative work. It also features special sections, such as terms useful for working with children, words to describe certain health conditions, and an appendix listing single-word translations.

The book is available in Northwestern’s bookstore.
