Research paper explores creativity of chiropractors
Doctors of chiropractic fit perfectly into the “creative class,” as described in Richard Florida’s book, The Rise of the Creative Class, according to Madeline Behrendt, DC, associate editor of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR).
Her recent paper, “Benchmarking Chiropractors as Members of the Creative Class,” published in JVSR, examines the chiropractic profession and describes how it expresses the creative traits described by author Florida.
Behrendt explains that chiropractors have earned respect in healthcare because they offer a unique service. Their unique purpose and services put them in a creative category by themselves, she says, noting that chiropractors use creativity to problem solve case by case.
The article examines four major criteria: practice, play, professional, and personal lives and concludes that chiropractors display all the major attributes of creative professions. The article also points out that chiropractors typically recognize the importance of self-care to maintain their creative edge; are engaged in society; and are motivated by passion for their work.
