CCC prof appointed to veterans’ med center staff

C.O. (Chip) Gowan III, DC, an assistant professor at Cleveland Chiropractic College Kansas City and administrator of the Cleveland Chiropractic College Wellness Center at Truman Medical Center Lakewood, has been hired by the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center (KCVAMC).

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) appointment makes Gowan, a 1995 Cleveland graduate, the only doctor of chiropractic on staff at the Kansas City location as well as the only chiropractor serving the entire Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) region known as VISN-15. The area includes eastern Kansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois. Gowan will provide chiropractic services for veterans residing within VISN-15.

The DVA is responding to a congressional mandate requiring them to offer chiropractic services throughout the VHA system. Prior to this mandate, the VHA covered some chiropractic care for veterans who were qualified, but no on-site chiropractic treatment were offered at any of their facilities.

Gowan’s new position at KCVAMC will require a commitment of 10 hours per week. He will maintain his full-time employment as part of the CCKC’s faculty and will continue his responsibilities on campus at the health center and at the Cleveland Wellness Center at Truman Medical Center-Lakewood.
