Online petition to ‘show vaccine data’ available
Chiropractors who have an interest in vaccines are invited to sign a “Show Us the Vaccine Data Petition,” according to the World Chiropractic Alliance. The online petition was unveiled by the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) at an August 23, 2004, meeting of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), National Academies of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
At that meeting, parents of vaccine-injured autistic children protested that the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) was being used by federal health officials to cover-up vaccine risks associated with mercury preservatives in vaccines. That day, the National Vaccine Information Center, as well as SAFEMINDS, National Autism Association, Moms Against Mercury, CoMed, NoMercury.org and Unlocking Autism, all called for full public disclosure of all government-held vaccine risk data in the VSD.
The federally operated VSD electronic database has collected information on vaccination and children’s health in cooperation with large Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) for more than a decade. During the past two years, independent researchers have been denied access by CDC officials to the publicly funded VSD for the purpose of replicating and validating the CDC’s analysis of the data.
In a related story, a poll taken for the Wall Street Journal Online’s Health Industry Edition by Harris Interactive showed that 97 percent of Americans think it is somewhat or very important for all children to receive vaccinations. The survey also reported that 38 percent of all adults and 46 percent of parents are somewhat or very concerned about the short-term side effects of vaccinations, such as fever, nausea or pain at the injection site.
About 43 percent of adults and 53 percent of parents are concerned that a child might get the disease for which the vaccination is intended to provide protection. And 43 percent of adults (and 52 percent of parents) are concerned that a child might develop a long-term serious medical condition as a result of the vaccination. One in ten parents feels uncomfortable vaccinating his or her children because of health concerns.
