NIH offers public lecture on supplements

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced the topics of its “Medicine for the Public” lecture series for 2004. Several of the topics relate to complementary and alternative care.

The series, now in its 28th year, features physician-researchers working on the frontiers of medical discovery at the NIH. It was established to help people understand the latest developments in medicine, with an emphasis on topics of current relevance presented by speakers who can relate stories of science to the lay public.

Topics of particular interest to chiropractors include:

• “Dietary supplements: What do you know? What should you know?” Presenter of this lecture on October 5 is Paul M. Coates, PhD., director of the Office of Dietary Supplements, NIH.

“The biomechanics of human movement: Could Leonardo de Vinci fly?” Steven Stanhope, PhD, director of Physical Disabilities Branch, Rehabilitation Medicine Department, is the presenter on October 26.

The lectures will begin at 7 p.m. at the Clinical Center’s Masur Auditorium, National Institutes of Health, 9000 Rockville Pike, Building 10, in Bethesda, Maryland. All lectures are free and open to the public.
