Northwestern’s bass tournament
raises $30,000
Northwestern Health Sciences
University raised more than $30,000 at the first Ranger Boats
Ultimate Bass Challenge on June 16, 2004, on Lake Minnetonka
in Excelsior, Minnesota.
“The tournament provided
a unique opportunity to raise awareness of chiropractic and
the University as a whole,” said Don Clark, DC, 1980
Northwestern alumnus and board of trustee’s member.
All proceeds go to help Northwestern provide more student
scholarships, enhance programs, and build the endowment fund.
“This event was great
because it wasn’t just another golf tournament,”
said Robert Weisberg, BA, JD, of the Weisberg Law Office,
which was a corporate event sponsor. “I got a chance
to have some quality time with clients, doctors and students,
and everyone had fun.”
However, this was more than
just a chance for participants to meet and network.
“This tournament is an
example of how Northwestern is doing more to promote the University
and natural health care,” said Howard Fidler, DC, Northwestern’s
Student American Chiropractic Association chapter liaison
and recent appointee to the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic
Examiners. “It is important that alumni and doctors
are here to give students great leaders and role models to
look up to.”
Several hundred spectators
cruised around Lake Minnetonka on the Queen of Excelsior and
the Queen of Excelsior II, while professional anglers from
Ranger Boats guided the 20 two-person teams through the waters
of Lake Minnetonka. The lake is rated as one of the top 10
bass fishing lakes in North America.
Those on the cruises included
members of the President’s Circle (the top Annual Fund
giving category), Board of Trustees, student leaders, tournament
sponsors, corporate partners, tournament volunteers, and a
host of VIPs.
A minimum donation of $500
per person was required to be eligible to fish in the tournament
and the 40 anglers who presented the top bids were invited
to participate. Among the fishermen was six time pro-bowler
and former Viking Mick Tingelhoff, who, along with Vuarnet
representative Doug Jurgenson, won the tournament. The duo’s
top three fish weighed in at 13.3 pounds. Jerry Peterson,
Practice Brokers Inc., and Chris Massoglia, DC, a 1989 Northwestern
alumnus, raised the top registration bid of $4,100.
