New Palmer museum to open
A new museum will provide visitors with
the story of the Palmer family’s 107-year involvement
in chiropractic. The museum, established by the Vickie Anne
Palmer Foundation, will be established at 300 Brady Street
in Davenport, Iowa.
The museum will also headquarter the foundation
and operational offices for its World Leadership Institute.
In addition to chronicling the Palmer legacy
in chiropractic, the museum will also show the Palmer family’s
pioneering role in Iowa broadcasting, which started with the
development of WOC-AM, the first radio station west of the
Mississippi.
Later the family started and purchased other
broadcasting outlets, including WHO in Des Moines, stations
in Oklahoma and Florida as well as cable and cellular operations.
That history includes an association with former President
Ronald Reagan, whose first job out of college was that of
sports announcer on Davenport radio station WOC-AM.
Reagan later moved to another Palmer-owned
radio station, WHO-AM in Des Moines, where he became one of
a popular sports commentator.
The Palmer family no longer has any involvement
with any of those properties.
Historical items from chiropractic and broadcasting
will be on display when the museum is completed and opened
to the public following an extensive remodeling of the building.
