ACA sets legislative conference for March 3-6

The American Chiropractic Association’s (ACA) National Chiropractic Legislative Conference (NCLC is set for March 3-6, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

For four days, NCLC will focus on the state and federal legislative and regulatory issues that impact doctors of chiropractic and their patients. The event offers attendees unique opportunities for professional development, continuing education and networking as well as an opportunity to meet with legislators.

Last year, NCLC gatherings were headlined by U.S. senators, representatives and, for the first time, two of the president’s cabinet officers, including Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson. NCLC participants received special policy briefings from ACA’s government relations team and political updates from Republican and Democratic party officials, and also learned effective lobbying techniques and communications strategies.

Committed to speak at this year’s event are Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi; Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA), Jim Talent (R-MO) and Kent Conrad (D-ND); and Representatives Phil English (R-PA), Jim McCrery (R-LA), Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) and Collin Peterson (D-MN).

Additionally, Karen Handorf of the U.S. Department of Labor is scheduled to discuss the complicated ERISA issues that affect the profession, while George McAndrews, Esq., will update the gathering on the ongoing legal battles the profession is fighting.

To register or to receive more information on the event, call the ACA at 800-986-4636, or e-mail NCLC@acatoday.com.
