Colleges support unity effort

The presidents of the nation’s chiropractic colleges have given their support of a united public relations effort for the chiropractic profession led by Foot Levelers’ president Kent Greenawalt. The colleges, meeting at the annual Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) conference in Las Vegas, became the third major group to endorse the PR effort.

Colleges pledge support -- Dr. Jean Moss, president of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges and Kent Greenawalt, president of Foot Levelers, Inc., hold one of the two pledges signed by ACC members in support of chiropractic unity.

The ACC college presidents committed their support by signing a declaration of national public relations unity and a pledge of unity. By signing these documents the college presidents agreed to retain a qualified, experienced national public relations firm experienced in delivering a nationwide message, which will develop and carry out a plan for a public relations campaign to motivate the American public to use chiropractic.

Dr. Jean Moss, president of the ACC and of Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), said, “We know from personal experience in Canada that to hire experts to take your message to the public is the right thing to do. We at ACC are proud to be a part of and support this important project for the profession.”

In November 2003 at the annual meeting of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA), 20 leaders from chiropractic associations, colleges and publications comprised the first group of chiropractic professionals to commit to what has become known as the “unity movement”. This consensus was later repeated at the National Chiropractic Legislative Conference of the American Chiropractic Association in Washington, DC. The Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) backed the effort.

According to Greenawalt, the Student International Chiropractic Association (SICA) has been approached and is anticipated to join the effort.

“The time is now to come together and act as a unified profession. As leaders in the profession, this movement needs your support … Together we will make this work,” said Greenawalt.

Greenawalt urges chiropractic groups who wish to support this effort to contact him with a letter of support, which can be sent to him at Foot Levelers, Inc., P.O. Box 12611, Roanoke, VA, 24027-2611.
