CAC recommends chiro care for veterans
Progress is being made on recommendations for chiropractic care for veterans, according to a statement released by the government relations department of the American Chiropractic Association.
The ACA played a leadership role in the successful effort to enact legislation mandating the establishment of a permanent chiropractic benefit within the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) healthcare system and in the creation of a special Chiropractic Advisory Committee (CAC), said the report.
The CACs recommendations include:
Full integration of full-scope chiropractic care into all missions of the VA healthcare system;
Adoption by the VA of the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center model of full integration of doctors of chiropractic as partners in healthcare teams and managers of patient care for neuromusculoskeletal conditions;
Continuity of chiropractic care/direct access for newly discharged veterans who have been receiving chiropractic care through the Defense Department healthcare system;
Inclusion of chiropractic into the VAs funding of research into treatment of service-connected conditions;
Inclusion of chiropractic colleges and students in training programs at VA facilities.
