Consumer group opposes S722
A consumer group, Citizens for Health, is rallying opposition to the proposed Congressional legislation under S722, the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2003, which was introduced in March and is now in Senate committee.
The bill stated intent is to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require that manufacturers of dietary supplements submit to the Food and Drug Administration reports on adverse experiences with dietary supplements, and for other purposes. (For more information on this see Supplements under federal scrutiny, in ChiroEcoNewsflash, .)
The group is e-mailing individuals interested in healthcare and wellness and is urging them to write to Congress. The groups Web site states, If you rely on vitamins and supplements for better health, if you believe this country needs to promote lower cost, prevention-based paths to health, if you want to retain your right to choose, then write to Congress today. Tell them continued access to affordable, health-promoting products is the right prescription for better health. It urged a public show of opposition to S722 on October 21 by contacting Congress on that day.
S722 is available for reading or downloading at the Library of Congress legislation site, Thomas. Go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and complete a request for S722.
