MRO vendor seeks ACA coding advice
OCT. 1, 2003 — A key vendor to medical review organizations (MRO) is seeking advice on coding from the American Chiropractic Association.
Bloodhound, Inc. (BHI) contacted ACA to make sure its coding software edits were consistent with ACA policy. Although insurance companies have been seeking coding advice from the ACA for several years, this marks the first time a medical review organization has requested such counsel from the ACA, says a spokesperson for the ACA.
A medical review vendor, Bloodhound, Inc. produces a medical bill review product that is sold to health, automobile and workers' compensation insurance carriers for bill-review assistance. The company’s goal is to have “open-door” coding edit policies.
According to Dr. Donald J. Krippendorf, the new ACA president, "We are very grateful that Bloodhound came to us to make sure they are on the right track with our doctors. It's a very positive step. I sincerely hope they are the first of many insurance medical review companies to come to us."
