Life West graduates 77

Seventy-seven students from across the nation and overseas were awarded doctor of chiropractic degrees at Life Chiropractic College West's 42nd commencement in June in Hayward, California.

Life West’s newest doctors represented 14 states and 10 foreign countries, including Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Finland, France, Italy, Slovenia, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Dr. Scott Donaldson, dean of the Health Center, made the commencement address, at the request of the graduating classes (winter class 2003 and spring class 2003).

The commencement also celebrated the career of Life West professor James Konlande, PhD, who recently retired from class instruction. Known by his students as “Dr. K,” the popular professor had taught almost every Life West graduate in the past 20 years. He received the Presidential Citation from Life West President Gerard Clum, as well as a huge ovation from the graduates and the audience.

Top academic honors in the winter 2003 class went to valedictorian Eric J. Rubin of Chicago, IL. Spring 2003 graduate, Melissa Miller of Boulder, CO, was honored as her class’s valedictorian.

Salutatorians Jason A. Buehler of Key West, FL. (winter 2003) and Jamie Stern of Tarzana, CA. (spring 2003) were each awarded a Clinical Excellence Citation. This award is presented for exceptional patient care provided at the Life West Public Health Center. This was the first time that both salutatorians won this award.
