BC/BSA reimburses DCs for P-T services

Blue Cross/Blue Shield of America has confirmed that it will now reimburse doctors of chiropractic for physical therapy services provided to patients covered by the BC/BS federal employee health benefits plan, according to Garrett Cuneo, executive vice president of the American Chiropractic Association.

In his weekly e-mail report to ACA members, Cuneo states: “Doctors of chiropractic may now be reimbursed for physical therapy services, if such services are within their state scope of practice, under both the basic and standard options of the BC/BS FEP with a retroactive date of January 1, 2002 (the date of the manipulation benefit under our settlement with BC/BSA).”

Claims will be processed without manual intervention after October 13, 2003. Until then the local plans "must use a manual workaround to process these claims
