To lie or not to lie, that is the question

The public opinion of managed care has sunk so low that a significant percentage of jurors believe physicians should lie to insurance companies in order to get them to cover medical care.

In a study of prospective jurors, 26 percent supported the idea of physicians misleading insurance companies. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Chicago, is published in the current issue of Annals of Internal Medicine.

Earlier studies have shown that some physicians are willing to mislead MCOs in order to get them to pay for care.
