Health channel to urge weight loss

Looking for a way to encourage your patients to take off those extra pounds? Tell them about the Discovery Health Channel’s upcoming “National Body Challenge,” a 12-week nationwide initiative that will challenge Americans to improve their health and shed extra pounds for a healthier lifestyle. The program begins January 10, 2004.

The National Body Challenge provides a weight loss and fitness program personalized to every individual free of charge and was developed under the advisement of Dr. Pamela Peeke, an internationally recognized expert in the fields of nutrition, metabolism, stress and fitness.

The challenge kicks off on January 10, 2004, with a mass weigh-in at participating Discovery Channel Stores and select Bally Total Fitness® health club locations nationwide, and includes an online component for those who wish to participate, but cannot attend the weigh-in events. The challenge will conclude with a final weigh-in event on April 3, 2004.

Those who sign up for the challenge will be given free tools to encourage weight loss and physical fitness. Included will be advice on food, nutrition and health from registered dietitians, members of the American Dietetic Association, Participants in the challenge will also have access to a companion Web site that provides each individual with a customized diet and exercise plan, advice from top fitness and nutrition experts, and online tools for success including weight tracking, tips, recipes, encouragement from an online buddy, and other helpful tools.
